Gerd Leonhard is a European futurist, speaker and author who specializes in the debate between humanity and technology. Below are some of his thoughts regarding the future of A.I.
John Giannandrea, the newly appointed chief to run Apple’s “machine learning and A.I. strategy,” has stated on the debate over whether humanity should be worried about the rapidly accelerating improvements in A.I. “What I object to is this assumption that we will leap to some kind of superintelligent system that will then make humans obsolete,” he said. “I understand why people are concerned about it but I think it’s gotten way too much airtime. I just see no technological basis as to why this is imminent at all.” – Source: MIT Technology Review
From the above, we can safely say that A.I. has become an increasingly hot topic and it is quite easy to imagine why that is. Artificial Intelligence impacts most areas and fields of work around the globe including education. The opinions on it constantly fluctuate between the best thing ever invented and an imminent Skynet, however, the important thing is to be informed. Many of us from the education sector are not very familiar with what it is and how it can help, so there is an obvious disconnect which can lead to unjustified fear or to a lack of action against potentially imminent concerns.
This article is intended to be thought-provoking and to make us ask questions like:
- What is A.I.?
- What are the dangers associated with A.I.?
- How can we use A.I. in our field of work?
- How helpful is A.I. in education?
- What are the benefits of usartificial intelligence
